Review can be boring for kids, but this is a great way to motivate them to keep practicing words they learned so they retain their progress. Take words from your checklist that you are keeping of their progress (I have a checklist in the freebies you can use). Here are the steps:
1. As seen in the picture example, take a piece of copy paper or colored paper and write the words on your sheet of paper.
2. Point out the words and read them in a quick review or while you are writing them to give a hint of the activity you will do.
3. Grab some small candy, stickers, or a favorite snack, and inform your child that they will win one piece for every one or another number that they get right. If it is an older child, you can use this for vocabulary words. You can say the definition and they touch the word or you touch the word and they tell you the definition.
This is a great activity because it can be set up quickly with only two household items...plus the reward!
You can also add in new words for a challenge and give extra or a bonus prize if they figure it out!
Is your kid not impressed by candy or snacks but likes money? Start a reward jar with pennies, nickels, etc. After they earn so much from learning activities, they can go to the dollar store or gas station to pay for a small toy or candy.
Your kid will love review games, even high schoolers. My students LOVED the end of the chapter review in my class because we turned it into a speed game. Just the bragging rights of winning got them excited.
What reward works best with your kids? Let me know!
